Abattoirs

Malagasy people mainly eat beef. More than a thousand zebus per day are killed in slaughterhouses all around Madagascar, and more than three hundred for the citizen of Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. Still, these slaughterhouses are small and archaic compared to the ones in developed countries. There is no modern equipment, no large chain of slaughtering. The zebus are simply roped and the heads are cut by the slaughter man with a knife, then their bloods are drained before the skin removal. In some remote areas of Madagascar, the zebu is slaughtered in the open air, and put on top of a man’s head or a wooden trolley for transportation.
