Children Raising Children
In 2021, during a mission in southern Madagascar, I met a frail 15-year-old mother, an encounter that deeply moved me. In her eyes, I saw exhaustion, pain, and yet incredible resilience in the face of a harsh reality. Like so many young Malagasy girls who become single mothers before reaching adulthood, she fights every day to survive in precarious conditions.
Abandoned by the fathers of their children, these teenage mothers raise them alone, carrying the weight of both survival and their future on their shoulders.
These are photos from my archive, but I aim to take more, capturing their stories and shedding light on lives that are too often left in the shadows. My goal is to raise awareness—the beginning of every change—to inspire empathy and remind the world that behind every gaze lies a story that deserves to be heard.
Discover the journey that led me to document the challenges faced by young mothers in Madagascar, and experience the urgency to support these resilient young girls. Their voices deserve to be heard, and this project represents a crucial step toward deeper understanding and awareness, with genuine hope for positive change.
Take a look at the photos I captured during my travels—moments that moved me deeply and inspired the Children Raising Children project. These images reveal the reality faced by young mothers and raise questions about the future of their children, born to mothers who are still learning to navigate life themselves. With their own education incomplete, what foundation can they offer their children?
Every gesture matters; every form of support is essential. This project needs you. Your support will allow me to travel across Madagascar, gather testimonies, observe ongoing efforts, and understand the challenges that remain. Discover how you can help ease the weight of cultural norms that these young girls carry.
